FARMGIRL ARTS' STORY
Artist and shepherd Laura Frazier noticed that for many years Suffolk sheep have been raised for meat and 4-H projects, but their lovely wool has been discarded rather than made into beautiful, useful things. Laura makes arrangements to buy wool for a fair price from six shepherds in NC and VA including her brother-in-law who raise and nurture the lambs to maturity. On the farms, the shearers deftly remove the soft and fluffy wool and Laura selects the best quality fleeces for socks. After removing debris, poop and short fibers, Laura sends the 100’s of pounds of wool to a mill in MI where it is spun into yarn or carded into fluffy batts for needle felting. The yarn is shipped to MN where it is knit into elegant, long-wearing crew socks.
The batts of wool are available to buy for your own needle felting projects.

Wool from NC & VA Suffolk Sheep Including Our Own
Sheep are part of the natural carbon cycle, consuming the organic carbon stored in plants and converting it to wool. Fifty percent of the weight of wool is pure organic carbon. Wool keeps you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It holds a third of its weight in moisture before it even starts to feel "wet."
SHEPHERDS' SOCKS AND HATS
Using All Natural Dyes.
Durable enough for hiking or outdoor work, elegant enough for wear around town and at the office, and comfortable enough for wear around the house. Wool is naturally anti-bacterial and anti-microbial and is, therefore, odor resistant so wool socks can be worn multiple times before washing.

“She Sculpts the Spirit of the Animal”
That’s what many people feel has happened when they are viewing a piece by Laura. Whether a commissioned portrait of a companion animal or just one of the many “wild souls” that have touched her, each piece has a personality and mood that gives the viewer a strong sense of the inner animal.
